City Lights presents Bend It Like Beckham 12

Part of South Asian Heritage Month 2026
Gurinder Chadha, UK, 2002, 112m.

Gurinder Chadha’s Bend It Like Beckham will be preceded by a pre-recorded introduction by actress Pooja Shah and followed by an optional 30 minute Bollywood dance class in the Atrium Bar.

Bend It Like Beckham is a timeless coming-of-age comedy about following your dreams, defying stereotypes and rebelling against your parents, that kicked off the careers of Parminder Nagra and Keira Knightley.

Jess Bhamra (Parminder Nagra), a British Indian teen, has one dream: to be a professional footballer. But her strict, traditional parents are pushing her towards a life of study and marriage. When she meets Jules (Keira Knightley), the two form a powerful bond over their shared love of the game. As Jess steps into a new world of possibilities, she must find a way to honor both her heritage and her passion.

Contains racist and homophobic attitudes and language.

Tickets cost £10 for adults and £5 for young people aged 12-18. Please note that children under 12 will not be permitted.

The screening is part of BFI FAN's UK-wide season, RIP IT UP, that explores and celebrates the transformative energy and changing face of youth rebellion, culture and expression on screen in the UK until October 2026
